The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

As any prominent honors show approaches, you'll find an outcry to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games in the world and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
